On Jan 31st, Working Films held a strategy session around the film with Iraq Veterans Against the War, American Friends Service Committee, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace, the Alliance for Security, the Center on Conscience and War, the Educational Video Center, and Purple Hearts. We came out of that meeting with a plan to use the film to draw public attention and compassionate response to the needs of troops in Iraq and upon their return.
Through the squad’s activities Occupation: Dreamland provides a vital glimpse into the last days of Falluja. The film documents the city’s waning stability before a final series of military assaults began in the spring of 2004 that effectively destroyed it. The result is a revealing, sometimes surprising look at Army life, operations and the complexity of American war in the 21st century.
