Reel Aging Deadline Extended

Breaking News: We've had a lot of post-holiday interest in our Reel Aging residency so we are extending the deadline until 11:59pm (EST) on Friday, January 13th. Any materials sent through the mail or by express must be postmarked by January 13th.

Also, check out this radio interview with Anna Lee and Robert West on Wilmington's NPR station, WHQR, about Reel Aging. Happy New Year!

Content + Intent = IMPACT / Engagement & Non-traditional Distribution Tactics

Our executive director, Robert West, will present a workshop in Philadelphia, PA, focused on audience-engagement strategies and new non-traditional distribution tactics for social-issue media. The focus is to create new partners and pathways to reach audiences, turning them into impassioned viewers -- so when the lights come up they are ready to act. This event is presented by Philadelphia Independent Film & Video Association (PIFVA) & SCRIBE Video Center. The workshop takes place Saturday, January 21st from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. The fee is $25 ($15 for members).

Reel Equality Dinner & A Movie

Working Films and JHG Financial Advisors will host a private dinner at the historic home of Matt TenHuisen and Chris Gore in downtown Wilmington, NC, in support of our Reel Equality campaign to build opposition to Amendment One, a proposed ban on same-sex marriage in North Carolina. Join us Saturday night, February 11th. A $50 donation is suggested which will go to the Human Rights Campaign, Equality NC and Reel Equality to further work to fight this amendment. Please RSVP to Andy Myers at Working Films: 910-342-9000 or amyers(at)workingfilms.org by February 6th. Space is limited!

After the dinner, we invite everyone to join us at a free screening of Reel Equality films Freeheld and Out in The Silence at 9pm at Wilmington's City Stage.

Full Frame Winter Series: Hell and Back Again

Hell and Back Again will be screening on January 25 at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC, as part of Full Frame's Winter Series. Filmmaker Danfung Dennis was embedded with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment during an assault on a Taliban stronghold. Near the end of this mission, Sgt. Nathan Thomas was severely wounded. Hell and Back Again follows Nathan home to North Carolina as he attempts to heal from his injuries and resume the life he once knew with his loving wife, Ashley. Working Films is developing an audience engagement campaign with the filmmakers, The Fledgling Fund and Impact Partners.
