📣 Join us as we explore the different ways to change up film distribution with filmmaker Prerana Thakurdesai and Director of Filmmaker Services and Impact at Working Films, Gerry Leonard. This evening seminar will explore ways to marry traditional distributions with creative ways of reaching your audiences through the lens of impact to maximize engagement and revenue. The presentation will look through concepts and case students of the film distribution landscapes and shifts.

🎥 Prerana Thakurdesai is a New York based filmmaker whose work centers around South Asian and end of life stories. She most recently produced the award-winning feature documentary, The Last Ecstatic Days, which has screened in several countries. She directed the short doc, The Essential Worker, which was commissioned by the Asian American Documentary Network and aired on PBS World Channel. Her recent documentary, Yatra, is an impact led film currently playing film festivals. Her background is in journalism and she has produced several television programs and films in the US and India. She is a Producers Guild of America fellow and the founding member of Bitchitra Collective: Indian Women in Documentary. Prerana was awarded the 2023 DOCNYC Documentary New Leader honor.

🎥 Gerry Leonard is an Indonesian born and Brooklyn based impact strategist and community organizer. He is the Director of Filmmaker Services and Impact, at Working Films, an organization that leverages the power of documentary film and storytelling to support social justice movements. His career across the media arts and narrative ecosystem spans over a decade—blending a background in grassroots movement building and policy advocacy towards structural and cultural change. His work focuses on equitable funding strategies, resource redistribution for artists and storytellers, and illuminating nuances and complexities of the Asian diaspora through film and movement work.
